“Puertalsol” is a different kind of restaurant in a privileged location. In Puerta del Sol, in front of the traditional clock that strikes the 12 chimes to bring in the New Year, the well-known chefs Alberto Chicote and Pedro Olmedo entrusted Touza Arquitectos with designing a new gastronomic space, part traditional Madrid tavern, part terrace. Located on the fifth floor of the Corte Inglés department store in Puerta del Sol, the space involved the complete remodelling of the sport’s floor; has a capacity for 150 diners, an interior dining area and a large terrace with view of Puerta del Sol and the busy calle Preciados.

The result is a unique place measuring over 500 square metres where each of the corners has been careful decorated in fine wood. There is a die-cut zinc bar 12 metres in length, lighting fixtures fitting of the surroundings and an open central kitchen where diners can watch the chefs in action. Both due to its materials and its decoration, but especially due to its gastronomic offer, it is designed as a classic Madrid tavern that tries to “reinterpret the cuisine of 100 years ago”. At least that is what the chef himself, Alberto Chicote, confessed when explaining that it is an “absolutely magical gastronomic space due to the concept, the premises, the views and the location”.
