This consists of a comprehensive renovation, particularly of the façade, of a property from the 90s. The aim was to focus the main attention on a new way of cladding the façades, with a certain “contained rationalism”, a noteworthy presence in the architecture, and a strong and expressive size… The project also sought to arrange the swimming pool and garden areas, creating a unified architectonic ensemble, showing aesthetic continuity between the home and its neighbouring surroundings that allow for family leisure. Finally, the concept of the outdoor enclosure is redefined by making it appear to be part of the house and emphasising the entrance. In conclusion, this is a property which, due to its character and personality, projects its size over its “own landscape” submerging itself in existing and new tree species. The main determining factor of the project is the existing architecture: a detached single-family dwelling spread over two above-ground level floors and a basement, with a façade of brick and phenolic plywood, which has aged badly and no longer brings an image of modernity or architectonic design. Taking into account that neither the size or spaces are to be altered and the actions must make the minimum possible impact, a modification to the “skin” is prescribed that will result in a radical change of image.

The construction solution that best solves these assertions is to add a new skin of aluminium composite material (Larson panels) which will be simply installed over the existing brick façade and will allow subtle geometric nuances to make the size more powerful. The aluminium composite panel is perfectly manipulated over the angle of the edges. The sliding shutters are also made out of this material on a metallic stretcher frame, disappearing into the whole when all shutters are closed. As the main theme for its size, the final appearance from the main perspective is configured as a sum of three prisms that are trumpet-shaped and frame the spaces. This corner geometry adds tension to the prisms and creates a sculpture-like characteristic, whilst being sophisticated and technological. Two shades of white are used for the overall volume and grey is used to emphasise the offset planes and the panels of the sliding shutters. We combine two tones creating intentionally excessive dual chromatics, but this brings a unique contrast due to its radicalness, its beauty…and highlights the opposition between the dominant volumes and the offset volumes. This image keeps rhythm and harmony with the typology of minimalistic modern architecture, incorporating constructive rationale and functionality of use.
